Welcome to the official website of Atlético de Kolkata, Champions of the inaugural season of the Hero Indian Super League held in 2014 and Semi-finalists in 2015.
After making history as the first ISL champions, ATK (as we're fondly known) is all set for the new season, and looks poised to bring back the trophy.
The club was officially launched as Atlético de Kolkata on May 7, 2014. Former Indian cricket captain and current CAB President Sourav Ganguly along with industrialists Sanjiv Goenka, Harshavardhan Neotia and Utsav Parekh, joined forces with Spanish La Liga giants Atlético de Madrid to bid for the Kolkata franchise after the AIFF (All India Football Federation), the national federation for football in India, and IMG-Reliance announced that they would be accepting bids for ownership of cities for the upcoming Indian Super League, an eight-team franchise league modeled along the lines of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament.
The logo features a Royal Bengal tiger along with a Phoenix, with the latter element being symbolic of perpetuity, due to the footballing heritage in Kolkata. The five stars above the crest symbolise the five owners of the club. The shield carries striped with the tigers' stripes. And, the team lived up to its logo with its roaring attitude.
The team will shape up under the mentorship and experience of Jose Francisco Molina - our new Head Coach and has retained star players of the stature like Iain Hume, José Luis Espinosa Arroyo ( Tiri), Sameehg Doutie and Ofentse Nato alongside Arnab Mondal and Jewel Raja. A host of new and gifted players have joined the squad for ISL 2015-16 and ATK looks in good shape.
This year promises to be even bigger and better for ATK and its fans. It's going to be a great season of football, and we look forward to you being a part of ATK's journey in Hero ISL 3.
